Many people don’t know but not all wood is the same. There is framing lumber which usually what you find in big box stores, then there is Architectural lumber which means it will have four corners similar to framing lumber except it is for appearances, redwood which is great for outdoors (rot and termites resistant) but can get pricey.
If you’re remodeling or building an addition where it will be covered framing lumber is perfect to use. It is structural sound, although it might look like it was chewed up. But if your building a patio cover, deck, or will be exposed Architectural lumber would be ideal. When the cuts are tight and the lumber is whole, the project end result looks flawless.
